Magnificat and the Masters

New Classic Singers concludes its 26th concert season with MAGNIFICAT AND THE MASTERS, an uplifting  concert of beautiful sacred music for chorus and instruments on Saturday, May 10, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.  The 8 p.m. concert will feature 2 recorders and string quintet.  Founder and Music Director Lee Kesselman will conduct. Long-time pianist of the NCS, William Buhr, will collaborate from the harpsichord.

The Singers will perform the Midwest premiere of Portuguese composer Eurico Carrapatoso's magical Magnificat for chorus, recorders and strings. Magnificat combines the traditional Latin text with sacred Portuguese poetry. It harkens back to the Baroque masters, especially Bach's famous Magnificat setting. The Singers will also perform a number of short sacred works by Mozart and Bach.

Director Lee Kesselman is widely known as a conductor, composer, and arranger. His choral music is performed internationally and his leadership of NCS has made the ensemble a beacon of choral music in the Chicago area. He recently completed a composer residency at the American School of Bombay.

New Classic Singers members include soloists, conductors, and teachers from throughout the Chicago area.  The ensemble is known for its rich and entertaining programs, its polished performances and its professionalism. NCS performed with the Fulcrum Point New Music Project at the Harris Theatre in Chicago in December.
